Bringing Transitioning Service Members, Veterans, Military Spouses, and industry stakeholders together to improve economic and national security outcomes.

Executive Summary

Task Force Movement’s mission is to leverage the private sector, labor unions, veteran organizations, academic and vocational training institutions, and state and federal government partners to create recommendations and quickly operationalize solutions to advance safe and responsible career pathways for the military-connected community (transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses) across the country who are entering the civilian workforce.

TFM has created a coalition of over 150 organizations that include employers, industry associations, labor, veteran and community-based organizations,  major universities and community colleges, U.S. Chamber of Commerce,  U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Army Soldier for Life Program, U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

TFM leadership brings decades of experience to the table in workforce development, military and civilian training and credentialing, as well as implementation of policy and legislation on behalf of transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. While many of our board members have served in high level positions in the military (both officers and enlisted members), we also have high level representation from public and private employers, academic and vocational institutions, and veteran service organizations.

The first objective was to bridge the gap between policy and pavement to address the shortfall of truck drivers that are vital to our nation’s economy and national security by creating synergies between industry and military communities. The results:

  • 750 transition service members and veterans credentialed and placed into trucking careers in 2023.
  • Raised over $300,000 in scholarships for SIV Afghan refugees and military veterans for CDL training to placements.
  • Generated $3.2mil in funding through the Dept. of Transportation for community colleges for CDL training.
  • Assisted the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Drive for Success program that provided 500 scholarships for veterans, military spouses, and members of the National Guard and Reserve.
  • Developed the report: “Life-Cycle Pathways for Military and Veterans into Trucking.” A roadmap for organizations who want to support our military-connected community and address critical labor shortages.
  • In partnership with the Minority Professional Trucking Association, developed the Driven By Equity workforce development program for independent trucking owners/operators. This program will be launched this fall with the support of the African-American Chamber of Commerce in New Jersey.

While remaining focused on the trucking industry, TFM is expanding our efforts to other industries that require a vibrant, dynamic workforce and offer life-changing opportunities for the military-connected community—

Cybersecurity and Healthcare, both of which face significant labor shortages that will have far-reaching impacts for our country. On the horizon, TFM is also posturing to address labor shortages in the Aviation and Maritime industries.

This coming April, we would like to mirror that earlier meeting, and host another meeting at the White House to celebrate the 2-year anniversary of TFM, highlight TFM’s successes since its inception, and formally announce future initiatives that will continue to create pathways that allow our military-connected community to create a future for themselves, their families, and also to continue to serve our country.
